FIS in-orbit performance # Original message sent 2006/10/05. # Modified to include the latest information 2006/10/17 Dear AKARI Open Time FIS users, The AKARI FIS team has released the result of careful analysis of the FIS in-orbit performance. The details are available at: http://www.ir.isas.jaxa.jp/AKARI/Observation/proposal/notice/FISsensitivity_061017.txt In summary, the SW bands (N60, WIDE-S) are confirmed to be as sensitive as predicted before launch (i.e. as documented in the Observer's manual). However, for the LW bands (N160, WIDE-L), various factors have brought the sensitivity to a level a factor of four (0.5 sec integration) to eight (2 sec integration) worse with respect to the pre-launch values published in the Observers Manual. Due to the difficulty of major revisions to the observing programme given the increasing operational constraints, we would like first to assess the impact of these new performance numbers, with the aim of maximizing the scientific return of the mission. We kindly ask you to check if the science goals of your proposal are maintained for your target list, given the good performance of the FIS-SW bands and of the IRC bands. Please let us know the confirmation of the present observation plan or if you would like to change the obsevation parameters. We would appreciate your prompt response, Sincerely yours, AKARI Helpdesk
