Galaxy Cluster Abell 2218

Abell 2218

A galaxy cluster is a structure that contains more than several hundred galaxies. With its strong gravitational force as a whole, a galaxy cluster would bend the light from galaxies further behind as though it is acting like a lens. Utilizing such lensing effect, AKARI detected a number of very faint and distant galaxies using the Infrared Camera (IRC).
