AKARI North Ecliptic Pole (NEP) deep survey region

In order to investigate the history of galaxy evolution, an extensive survey of distant galaxies was carried out using all nine photometric bands of the Infrared Camera onboard AKARI. This image shows over ten thousand galaxies with the distance of several billion light years. This data produced a number of scientific results, including that the star formation was enormously active in the early universe.
