Patterns are often used for basic training purposes in Tae Kwon Do to refine techniques and movements although they are based on a ancient philosophy . The patterns (Poomsae in Korean) shown in this section are the TAEGEUKS required for students as they move up the belts in Tae Kwon Do and are designed to build and consolidate your skills. Patterns are a set of techniques linked together into a structure not unlike a dance where each step should be performed as if you are dealing with an attacker. The Black Belt Patterns are more complex and have a different style.
