Scope of the Symposium

The first Japanese space infrared mission called IRTS (Infrared Telescope in Space) was successfully launched on March 18th, 1995. It carried four focal plane instruments (NIRS:Near Infrared Spectrometer, MIRS:Mid-Infrared Spectrometer, FILM:Far Infrared Line Mapper, FIRP:Far Infrared Photometer) which, during its 40 days mission, collected valuable data on the zodiacal light, stars, interstellar dust and gas, infrared background radiation etc. The main purpose of this Symposium is to present the results of the IRTS mission to the world wide community of the astronomers and astrophysicists, and to achieve comprehensive understandings on the diffuse infrared radiation. The Symposium is also concerned with current and future space infrared missions. We plan the presentation of early results of the ISO mission, as well as the discussion on future missions after the IRTS and ISO.

Topics to be discussed are summarized below.

The preliminary program based on the comments by SOC members is shown below. Main parts of the Symposium talks are already occupied by invited talks. We also welcome some contributed papers. However, due to the tight schedule, only some contributed oral talks are possible and most of the contributed papers will be presented as posters.
