Globular Cluster NGC 7078

NGC 7078

A globular cluster, a group of several hundred thousand stars, was observed with the Infrared Camera (IRC) onboard AKARI. This cluster was formed over ten billion years ago, and most of its massive stars have already perished. The bright red stars seen in this image are in the final stages of their stellar evolution and releasing significant amount of their material into interstellar space as dust.
